| Should Australia
have troops in Iraq? Click here to have your Say. |
No! Apart from being a war that has nothing to do with freeing Iraqi's, America told us it was not in THEIR interest to assist in the peace keeping force during the turmoil in East Temor. So why have we jumped head strong into a war (not a peace keeping effort) with a country that didn't stand by us and has weapons far more advanced and damaging than that of Iraq! After all, the US military just can't help themselves but boast about how accurate and powerful their artillary is. If so, then how do they explain "accidentally" bombing the Red Cross stations during their conflict with Afghanistan? I wonder if that war was really about fighting terrorism or maybe it had something to do with the heroin the country possesses. I heard on the news, not so long ago, that the heroin trade since the fall of the Taliban has increased 20 fold (and that's just to Australia)! I will say though, that is just an assumption I've made from the stories I am hearing. Free trade with America may be great for Australia's economy, but does that justify the destruction of one country to further our own! I'm not a believer of war, but if we HAVE to fight those who possess weapons of mass destruction, then maybe we should look at who supplied these people with their weapons! I had alot of respect for our Prime Minister. I followed him because I believed he had morals. Lately he has betrayed my trust in him and when he said last night that all decent Australians should pray for the safe return of our troops, I thought that we wouldn't need to pray for them if a decent Australian didn't put their lives at risk in the first place. Australia was never a target of terrorism until we entered this war, although the US administration would rather us believe otherwise! This war has do with much more than dissarming Iraq. I don't have anything against Americans, however I have an issue with the country's policies and ignorance. I wonder how they would react if another country spied on them and also ordered them to change their state of parliment so that it better suited another country. It is a criminal act that our country has defied UN laws. What kind of example are we providing or future (being our children)when our country engages in a criminal act! I realise I have goes past the topic and apologise, however all I have mentioned has to do with why our troops should not be used as pawns in a war that should never have happened! I apologise if I have offended anyone with my views, but like those who have a different opinion, I have mine.

definitely no australian military in iraq our forces should be only maintained within our pacific region. And further more so what if iraq has so called weapons of mass destruction, so does India, Pakistan, Israel, Germany, China and a host of others including i suspect Indonesia and Malaysia, so why is Iraq singled out. Because he is not in power according to USAs terms, because he stands in the way of the USA controlling Oil in the region, because he is an embarrassment of a failed USA policy of 70's and 80's when USA supplied and funded weapons for Iran Iraq war, Saddam is a by product of USA covert ops of the 70s. And all of this has nothing to do with Australia, so when are we going to grow up and attain self determination and stop suckling the American thumb.
